Alternative Hair Show – the visual debut

On Sunday 11th October we came together as an industry again and watched the 38th Alternative Hair Show IMAGINE! – first time in a virtual format. The show was aired across social media and what a show it was!

In a nutshell

An enduring charity event that usually takes place in London and other cities around the world, known for showcasing the most extravagant looks, introducing new talents and fundraising for The Alternative Hair Charitable Foundation ‘Fighting Leukaemia’, Blood Cancer UK and World Child Cancer. The Foundation has gifted over £500,000 in total towards research that will help children survive their blood cancer.

Tony Rizzo and Anthony Mascolo

Founded by Tony Rizzo and inspired by Anthony Mascolo’s desire to find new talent, the Alternative Hair Show receives incredible support from the hair teams who self-fund their shows, to the charity sponsors, international trade media and of course, the audience. Prior to the show, the finalists’ models are judged by top hairdressers and journalists and the winners are announced at the end of the show. Alternative Hair is more than a charity event, it’s inspiration and meets entertainment; bringing the industry together for a good cause.

The 2020 version

For this year’s virtual show, participants entered with videos and their creativity really took over the screens. The international artistic teams, most of whom had previously appeared at the live shows in London, created presentations in their own countries with their personal interpretation of the theme: IMAGINE. From fields and studios to salons and historical buildings, the backdrops were inspiring and the work visionary and unique. The show also included the live finals of the International Visionary Awards and was presented by AHS founder Tony Rizzo, AHS president Anthony Mascolo and AHS PR Linda Evans. This year’s winners are:

Cut and colour – Xavier Arcarons, Spain

Men’s- Carles Sanchez Congost, Spain

Avantgarde – Eugene Low Wai Ket, Malaysia

We loved the commercial and elegant vibe coming from the work of Carlo Bay from Italy, the creativity of Anne Veck-UK, the avantgarde-ness of TIGI creative artistic team and the pop colours of Rudy Mostarda, Italy. You can still watch the show HERE and don’t forget to donate and support the cause.
