Meet the bloggers

lilly@ihaa.co.uk Kenra Professional

Last month, we ran a competition in conjunction with HairClubLive to find five colour wizards to trial colour brand-0f-the-moment, Kenra Professional. The chosen five will act as guest-bloggers on Respectyou.me over the next few months, sharing their honest experience of Kenra’s acclaimed colour line (made famous by social media sensation, Guy Tang) alongside formulas and pictures as they go. Pretty exciting, isn’t it? The five colourists have been selected, so let’s meet them:

How did it feel to hear you’d been selected as a Kenra colour columnist?

I was over the moon! It was down to HairClubLive – I entered by tagging them into a few Instagram pictures of recent colours I had done. I didn’t expect anything to come of it but it’s true ‘you have to be in it to win it!

What Kenra product/ colour are you most excited to try?

I’m excited to try out Kenra’s metallic range. It’s so current and with so many clients asking for it, I can’t wait to give it a go! There’s so much variety in the range from high lifts to toners – people can achieve all different techniques with what Kenra can provide. I’m looking forward to using the texture sprays and gels, too.

What do you love most about being a colourist?

I love the impossible, who doesn’t? Colour is wonderful. It can really change how people feel, and there’s nothing more satisfying than a clients leaving happy or seeing your creation standing out from the crowd!

How did it feel to hear you’d been selected as a Kenra colour columnist?

To be given the chance to try a new brand to the UK and be able to share my experiences of it is a fantastic opportunity. I’m so excited to have been selected alongside other creative colourists so we can compare, talk formulas, and experiment together with the range.

Ooh, this is a tough one! From the styling products, definitely the heat styling sprays for creating waves. And for colour? The metallic shades and the reds.

What do you love most about being a colourist?

I love that as a colourist I can change they way people feel about their hair. Colour can make people look younger and brighten their appearance; make hair shiny, and help people feel better about themselves. Creatively, colour tones are limitless and I love finding new formulas. By using the right colour you can really make a hair cut – it’s the icing on the cake.

How did it feel to hear you’d been selected as a Kenra colour columnist?

I was really excited to learn I’d been chosen. I’ve heard amazing things, and seen colourists from the USA posting formulas with beautiful results so now I’m excited to achieve those myself using Kenra!

What Kenra product/ colour are you most excited to try?

I’m especially excited to try the Metallics – to see what all the fuss is about. Haha! I’m also intrigued by the Demi line. Demi colours are usually my favourite to work with so it will be really interesting to see how they compare to other brands I have used.

What do you love most about being a colourist?

I love the endless palette of colours which you can be achieve on hair. It’s so cool to learn the rules of the colour brand but then also even more exciting to challenge those rules and bend them – especially when coming up with new formulas!

How did it feel to hear you’d been selected as a Kenra colour columnist?

It was obviously wonderful to hear I’d been selected, in a world now where so many people use visual mediums such as Instagram (which I love) and Snapchat to communicate, it’s so vital to keep the art of story telling alive and look forward to bringing readers on a written journey.

What Kenra product/ colour are you most excited to try?

Really working with their Demi permanent line across different situations, Demi’s for me are the best thing since sliced bread, whether for colour correction, glossing, lowlights or deepening the hair they are so versatile, leave the hair feeling wonderful, add glorious shine and the longevity of tone often beats permanent creme colourants.

What do you love most about being a colourist?

  1. I think firstly for me is the interaction, chatting with people all day, discussing beauty, fashion, restaurants & travel  is a wonderful way to really turn “the working day” into something marvellous!
  2. Making people feel good about themselves. Hair colour has this magical affect on people, really boosting esteem and helps people feel like the best version of themselves! Whether it’s covering those ageing greys, giving brunettes that sunkissed dimension they crave or making a dark blonde feel like their true inner bright blonde self. To not only transform someone’s colour but their entire self is truly special.
